forced into prostitution against their
own will
• Involuntary

Mesopotamia appearing
in Egyptian, Greek,
Babylonian
• In some nations it was a
ritual or an act of worship
in temples
Europe and
Israel
expansion
• Balaam, a god of fertility
worshipped by the
Canaanites, influenced
immoral acts into thousands
of Israelites who fell into
temptations which later cost
their lives
• began to spread into
Northern European
Countries like France and
Britain
• Records in old and new
testament
• in the United States by
19th and 20th century.
EXPANSION
• London 1899 convention - “an international agreement providing for a specific
agency in each nation to cooperate in the suppression of the international traffic in
women for the purpose of prostitution”
• United States: the Mann Act or White Slavery Act “forbade under severe penalty
the interstate and international transportation of women for immoral purposes”
• After World War II, prostitution increased and continues to grow dramatically in the
United States
1. THE LOVE BAIT
• treated with affection and kindness to trick their innocent minds
• lured with promises of “protection, love, adventure, home, and opportunity
The perfect target:
• Social, emotional unstableness
• Average age: 14-16 years old
• Family issues
• Run-aways
• Social media- fake identities
2. TRAINING
Victims:
a) Psychologically attached
b) Dependent on survival
c) Far from family and friends
• Verbal & physical abuse
• Disobedient: Drugged, tortured, & beaten
• Exposure to pornography, sexual education, and rape
3. WORK
• Sent off to the streets or sex homes
• Average night: 10-50 men
• Money earned for boss
• Don’t escape to pay for their alcohol and drug addictions
• Almost impossible to escape this business
RESCUE OPERATIONS
• FBI trains police officers and other authorities where to find victims and how to help
the discreetly
• Criminals/ pimps receive a harsher punishment (25 year jail sentence)
• Avoid jail time for white slaves
• Organizations: Shared Hope help with therapy, recovery and inform public of
problem
