• Marijuana is the most widely used illicit drug in
America today, and this has been the case for some
years. Nearly 70 million Americans have used
marijuana in their lifetime. By 12th grade, 52% of
youth have tried marijuana. Marijuana is a potent,
intoxicating drug with long-term, cumulative effects.
Unlike alcohol or most other substances of abuse, it
remains in the body for as long as forty days. Heavy
users can test positive for the drug even after weeks
of abstinence.
How Long does it stay in your system?

Detection Times
• Marijuana/Cannabinoids (THC, Marijuana)
Detection Time:
• 1 time use only 5-8 days
• 2-4x per month 11-18 days
• 2-4x per week 23-35 days
• 5-6x per week 33-48 days
• Daily 49-63 days
• Most State Drug Courts have used 30 days as the
cleanout rate for Cannabinoids /THC
If a school district, college, institution or organization documents
marijuana use by a (student) athlete and then allow them back on a
playing field for practice and or competition and they are injured, the
institution must assume the associated liability. Knowing the removal
rates for THC would require that a student athlete must pass a
legitimate FDA approved drug screening for THC and test clean prior to
the resumption of athletic training and or competition.
