Teenage Smoking Smoking In Australia 19,000 people die a year because of smoking. More deaths that car accidents suicide, AIDS, Murder and cancers like breast and skin put together. There is 4.9 million people that die of the affects of smoking around the world. In NSW there was 55,000 hospital admissions that related to affects of smoking. Around Australia it cost $700 million in hospital costs. Teenagers Everyday in Australia there are kids who are trying smoking, and continue to smoke into adulthood. 90% of people who smoke started before they were 18 Why teens take up smoking Teenagers might take up smoking for many reasons -Smokers in the family give a bad example -Everybody these days is smoking, -Teenagers may feel like they need to smoke to be accepted within social groups. -Image of smoking. The results of our surveys show that most of the people who took up smoking was because of friends and peers that had either offered them Dangers of smoking There are many effects of smoking they include. -Lung Cancer -Strokes -Emphysema -Larynx and mouth cancer -Heart attacks Smoking is also known as a gateway drug, it leads to marijuana and other sorts of drugs.
