Using UpToDate
How to answer clinical questions with UpToDate
>1. Start by entering a search term in the
New Search box and click Go.
>2. Scan the resulting matches
>3. Select a topic by clicking on the title…

in the outline

>4. Use the topic outline to locate relevant text
>5. Access graphics by clicking on the
“show figure” links
The graphics are also listed at the bottom of the topic outline
>6. Click on a drug name in a topic review
to access usual dosage, adverse reactions,
and more
You can also search on a drug name in the main Search screen.
>7. Access patient information handouts
Click on “patient info” to access a list of available topics for you to give to your
patients. Patient topics are also included in the list of matches for related
searches and are linked to related professional topics.
Additional tips:
• Start a new search by clicking on the “New
Search” button on the tool bar
• A “What’s New” search lists highlights of new
findings by specialty.
• Share UpToDate with colleagues and patients:
print or email topic reviews
• For pediatric matches, include “in children” with
the search phrase
• View the Medline abstract of any reference by
clicking on the reference number within topic.
