1937Marijuana becomes
illegal, but people
will still smoke it.
1943Swiss chemist, Albert
Hofmann, discovers
LSD.
The Scientific Community-
Starts to research drugs
like LSD in order to gain
a better understanding
on how the mind works.
The Psychedelic Experience-
The ability to
“explore your mind”
by using drugs like
LSD.
INTELLECTUALSBelieve drugs like LSD
can help creativity, and
can also play a role in
Spiritual / Philosophical
Understanding.
The CIA-
During the 1950s, they
start to research LSD to
see if it can be used as a
“weapon of war”.
They then tested LSD on
people WITHOUT their
knowledge, including
American civilians.

THE “HIGH PRIEST” OF
THE DRUG CULTURE.
-STARTS TO RESEARCH
DRUGS LIKE LSD AT
HARVARD IN THE
EARLY SIXTIES.

He escaped from prison,
And fled the country.
1973Leary was captured
& sent back to prison
