Looking to the Future
Trade Policy
Currently there are four free trade agreements
(FTAs) that will benefit American manufacturers
that await action by Congress:
– Colombia
– Panama
– Peru
– South Korea
Bipartisan agreement reached earlier this year

Trade Policy
The NAM has developed an on-line resource to help
members communicate with Capitol Hill in support
of these much needed agreements:
www.nam.org/tradetoolkit
Through this site, members can:
– Learn about the benefits of each agreement
– Follow the status of each FTA
– Use an on-line mechanism to easily write and call
their Members of Congress in support of the much
needed agreements.
Ozone Standard
• EPA has announced plans that may lead to a
more stringent national ambient air quality
standard for ground-level ozone (smog).
• The new plan could replace the current standard
– which has yet to be fully implemented and has
been estimated to cost $100 billion – with a
much more stringent and costly standard.
Ozone Standard
NAM Action
• Working with state officials and groups
• Businesses and their employees are
encouraged to write EPA Administrator

NAM Resources
NAM members can access
our online advocacy
toolkit at
www.nam.org/ozonetoolkit
which:
• Gives an overview of the
EPA’s proposed ozone
standard
• Allows businesses and their employees the opportunity to
contact the EPA and submit comments on the proposed
regulation
Infrastructure
• The NAM announced at its February 2007
Board Meeting plans to form an industryled coalition to advocate the need for a
more secure infrastructure structure.
• The Alliance for Improving America's
Infrastructure aims to address the urgent
need to modernize the nation’s roads,
rails, ports and airports.

Blue Dog Coalition
• The Blue Dog Coalition released a set of eight
energy policy principles in June 2007 that
focused on the premise that there should be an
energy “Pay-Go” in that energy policy should not
result in a net loss of domestic energy.
• However all but four Blue Dog Coalition
members however voted for the House Energy
Bill package before the August recess that did
not address the need for greater energy supply.
