How would you grade yourself on your own
personal health habits?

• A healthy lifestyle is a way of living that
helps you prevent illness and enhance
wellness.
• Lifestyles are also controllable risk factors.

contributors to early death.

The priority healthy lifestyle choices have the
largest impact on preventing diseases and
promoting well-being.
– Be physically active.
– Eat properly.
– Manage stress.
Adopt Good Personal Health Habits
• Oral care (brushing,
flossing, cleaning)
• Posture (sit, stand, lift
with good posture)
• Sleep (9 hours per
night)
• Skin care (use
sunscreen, screen for
growths and changes)

• Smoking, other tobacco use, legal or illegal
drug abuse, and alcohol abuse are among
the most dangerous habits.
– Tobacco use is the leading cause of actual death in
the nation.
Adopt Safety Practices
• Accidental deaths kill more teenagers than
anything else.
• Basic safety practices include wearing seat
belts, wearing helmets when bicycling or
inline skating, labeling and securing
poisons in the home, installing and
maintaining smoke detectors at home, and
keeping your home clean and safe.
Learn CPR and First Aid
• Being able to administer CPR and first aid
can help others when accidents occur. The
knowledge can also help you make smarter
choices or help yourself in an emergency.
Seek and Follow Appropriate Medical
Advice
• Seek preventive care to help detect and
avoid problems before they start.
Make Efforts to Improve the
Environment
• Help create a healthy physical environment
(air, land, water).
• Stay away from unsafe environments
(smog, smoke, poisons, toxins).
• Recycle when you can.
Seek Out Supportive Friends
• Regular interactions with friends can
promote healthier brain function and can
contribute to happiness.
• Supportive friends can aid in behavior
change efforts like exercising regularly or
making dietary changes.
