DiaSys – History

Counts
•Jun 2007
– DiaSys Europe and the VLA sign an agreement to develop and commercialise
Veterinary Parasep for sheep, cattle, horses etc.

not including VLA Agreement.
•Oct 2008
– DiaSys assign Woodley Equipment as master veterinary distributor
•Nov 2008
– DiaSys talking to the VLA to progress use within the VLA
Woodley Association
Woodley a perfect partner for Diasys
• Range- Woodley sell microscopes, centrifuges
& McMaster slides!
• Coverage- UK Sales team & International distribution
network
• Target Audience – vet labs are Woodley’s business
Worm Egg Counts and the Customer
Widely recognised that Worm Egg Counts reduce incidence of resistance
• Worms have evolved multidrug resistance against the three major classes of
anthelmintics- Benzimidazoles, Imidazothiazoles and Macrocyclic lactones
• Routine dosing promotes drug resistance
• Worm Eggs Counts inform vets when worming drugs are needed
• WEC >200 eggs/g faeces are wormed
• Drug resistance can prevent livestock farming for 2 years or more
• Horses- WEC performed at least four times a year
The future is WEC testing!
The Veterinary Parasep
Faecal Filter
For fast, clean and accurate Worm Egg Counts
Single use device
for in vitro diagnostic use only
No more
messy sieving
Traditional Modified McMaster Method
McMaster Method dates back 40 years
• Sample added to saturated salt solution in an enclosed jar
• Saturated salt solution added with glass beads to the jar
• Sample passed manually through a sieve to remove debris
• Sample shook and allowed to stand for 3 – 5 minutes
• Fluid drawn off top of sample and placed into McMasters chamber
Traditional Modified McMaster Method
• Health and Safety issues
• Aerosol production
• Cleaning sieve and beads between samples
• Inconsistent sample mixing between users
• Possibility of cross contamination if sieve not cleaned
correctly
• Time consuming technique
Veterinary Parasep
Comparable or greater egg yields
• Tests conducted by Veterinary Laboratories Agency
showed that Veterinary Parasep used with centrifugation
produced consistently higher egg counts than the
Improved Modified McMaster method alone
• Tests without centrifugation gave comparable results to
the Modified McMaster method.
Veterinary Parasep
Safer
• No aerosols produced during sample mixing
• No cleaning required.
Faster
• Veterinary Parasep Methods were found to be faster than other
methods.
• Traditional method- 4 samples in 25 minutes
• Veterinary Parasep with Modified McMasters- 4 samples in 20
minutes
• Veterinary Parasep with Improved Modified McMasters- 4 samples in
14 minutes
3 Simple Components
3 Simple Steps
3g of faeces is weighed,
mixed with 42mls water
(IMM) or 42mls sat. salt
solution (MM) and the
granules
Mix filtered through 425 micron
pores
Filtrate is then:
A) placed straight onto a
Mcmaster Slide
(Modified
McMaster method)
B) Centrifuged and
resuspended in salt solution
(Improved Modified McMaster
method
Demonstration
Using water will not work
• Requires “substance” to control filtration volume
Tea leaves will provide a safe and fast way of showing a
customer how it works
Leave samples for them to try – it will not take them long to
see it is a better way!
Demonstration
Marketing
• Advertising
• Targeted mail-shots
• Press releases
• Pack inserts with full instructions
• Brochure with cross promotion of centrifuges / microscopes etc
• Demo packs at exhibitions
• Sales staff have demo packs to show in-practice
• Promotion at exhibitions
• Link up with veterinary chains and laboratories
• Target equine vets and hospitals
We are here to help – high res images, examples of our marketing,
technical points, selling points etc
More info in Marketing presentation later in the day
Pack Inserts
Pack Inserts
6 Page Brochure
Including instructions how to use and cross promotion of items
such as centrifuges and microscopes
Selling Points
• Fast and accurate worm egg counts (WEC) in horse,
cattle and sheep
• Validated by VLA
• Clean, safe, disposable single use unit
• Suitable for both the McMasters and Modified McMasters
techniques
• Accurate consistent results
Selling Points
• Resistance to worming drugs rapidly on increase
• WEC determines need for worming rather than just giving
drug routinely four times a year
- counts >200 eggs/g faeces are wormed
• Routine WEC part of good stable/ farm management
• Parasep® saves time and mess doing WEC in practice
Selling points
• Simple to use
• No mess or aerosols unit completely contained
• No cross contamination compared with original sieve
technique
• Cost effective for practice- saves money!!
• Saves nurse/ technician time performing test
• Practice can increase profit by doing routine WEC
• Low cost
• No expiry date
