The Light of
Truth Center,
Inc.
Vaile Leonard, the
Founder and CEO of
The Light of Truth Center,
has been in the recovery
process for the past 12
years and has
volunteered for several
community service
positions. In 1992 Ms.
Leonard changed her
lifestyle from full time
addiction to full time
recovery.
In 1999 Vaile
inherited her
Uncle’s house
nestled within
the residential
neighborhood
Penn-North in
Baltimore City.
With this
blessing she
was able to
fulfill a long time
promise that she
made to herself
during her
recovery
process.
She would help
other recovering
women by
offering them a
safe and clean
environment
conducive to
recovery, thus
enabling them to
focus on their
healing
The Maryland Alcohol and Drug
Abuse Administration estimated
that there were 58,316 adults in
need of treatment in Baltimore
City in fiscal year (FY) 2002. 40%
of those in need were treated.
More women have been
seeking treatment over the
past few years; furthermore,
data indicates there aren't
enough programs or housing
for women in the system.
According to the data composed
by Maryland Dept. of Health and
Mental Hygiene,
from 1999-2001 there has been a
23% increase of women coming
into treatment in Baltimore City.
That’s where The Light of Truth
Center, Inc (LTC) comes in
LTC provides a safe and clean
environment for women
LTC encourages women to stand in
the newness of life
To choose to change their behaviors,
attitudes, perspectives, and ideas
Thus, giving them the
opportunity to seek the
necessary programs and
agencies that will lead
them into their own
homes, or perhaps,
reunite them with their
families.
In the past 4 years since
opening, LTC has
assisted over 36 women.
Of the 36, 27 have either
become house managers
for other transitional
houses, moved into their
own apartments, or
homes, continued with
educational goals…
And most
importantly,
they are still
abstaining from
drugs or alcohol.
They are
