What is the CTN?
In 1999, the National Institute on Drug Abuse
(NIDA) launched the NATIONAL DRUG ABUSE
TREATMENT CLINICAL TRIALS NETWORK
(CTN). A partnership was forged that now
comprises NIDA and seventeen state and regional
Nodes, working with 178 community-based
treatment programs (CTPs).
Searching the CTN Library
Example: Full record (Journal Article)
The CTN Dissemination Library home page
provides several options for information retrieval,
including browsing by document type, field-based
searching, quickly viewing newly added items, and
learning about the CTN in general.
The Full record for each item in the Library is a static
web page (not a database report). This allows for
greater control over design and features, as well as a
stable, simple URL for each item.
Each record contains an abstract, keywords, a link to
the article online, and an indication of the Protocols,
Nodes, and CTPs that were involved in the research.
Protocol information
Protocol pages contain detailed information about
each of the studies undertaken in the CTN. The page
contains contact information for the principal
investigator, a description of the intervention, “See
Also” searches and web links for participating Node
and CTPs, and the publications related to the study.

The CTN mission is to conduct rigorous, multi-site
clinical trials of behavioral and pharmacological
treatment interventions for drug abuse, and to
determine their effectiveness in a broad range of realworld treatment settings and with diverse patient
populations. Through its Dissemination activities, the
CTN hopes to transfer research results to addiction
counselors and others to improve drug abuse
treatment throughout the country, using science as
the vehicle.
The CTN Dissemination Library
The CTN Dissemination Library is a digital
repository of resources created by and about the NIDA
CTN.
