Which statement about the synthesis of
glycogen from glucose is INCORRECT?
A. The formation of UDP-glucose is facilitated by the joining of two
phosphates to form pyrophosphate
B. In UDP-glucose, the glucose residue is joined to UDP at the Cpyrophosphate is involve but it is hydrolysed

of glucose.
C. Glycogen synthesis occurs in the cytoplasm
C1 is the
end form glycosidic
D. Activated glucosethe
residues

bonds with the C-4 ends of the growing glycogen chain
most certainly
E. UTP is regenerated by the reaction of UDP and ATP
same as B
yes. forgot to mention that this year!

Which treatment would LEAST likely affect the uptake
of fatty acids into the epithelial cells of the small
intestine after a SINGLE fat meal?
A. Co-consumption of a drug which prevents emptying of the gall
bladder
B. Co-consumption ofwould
a drug
to prevent
thedigestion
formation
of bile salts

of fat
in the liver
C. Substituting 50% of the fat in the meal with Olestra
bile
alreadylipase
in the gall
bladder
D. Co-consumption of
a salts
pancreatic
inhibitor
with the meal
E. Co-consumption of a compound that prevents the formation of
micelles
only half the fat would be available
would not be able to digest the fat
would not be able to emulsify the fat – lipase wont work
Coupling Analysis
• Big Holes in Knowledge:
– Role of final electron acceptor
– The site of oxygen consumption
– Function of ETC is distinct from ATP synthase, although one
uses the product of the other
• Need to understand this distinction to answer all “uncoupler”
questions
• ATP is made by F1F0ATPase (aka ATP synthase) and oxygen is
used by the ETC not ATP synthase
• Ambiguities:
– Be careful when you use “continues”. Continues relative to
what?
– Be careful when you use “stops”. Does it cease completely?
– Negating the stem within the answer(s). It is confusing,
especially in a stressful situation.
