Human Development
Cells-basic unit of life.
 Body system-group of organs that work
together to carry out related tasks.

Digestive system
 Endocrine system

Development After Fertilization
Fertilized cell divides
 Embryo-first eight weeks of pregnancy.
 Fetus-eight weeks to birth.
 Cells development into tissues, organs
and body systems.
 Pregnancy last 9 months


Fetus receives nutrients and oxygen from the
umbilical cord.
Care During Pregnancy

Do’s

Eat healthy
 Vegetables
 Protein
 Calcium

Get regular check-ups
 The
closer to the pregnancy the more you visit the
doctor.
Care During Pregnancy

Don’t


 Baby
is more likely to have allergies, asthma and
respiratory infections.

Any drug mom takes the baby also takes.
Heredity
Heredity-traits you get from your parents.
 Chromosomes-threadlike structures that
carry the codes for inherited traits



All human cells contain 46 chromosomes, or
23 pairs.
Genes-basic unit of heredity.
Sperm and egg have 23 chromosomes each.
 Chromosomes in sperm determine sex of the
baby.

Heredity
Eggs contain an X (female) chromosome.
 Sperm contain either an X or Y (male)
chromosome.

 XX
chromosome combo produces a female.
 XY chromosome combo produces a male.

Downs Syndrome-genetic disorder in which a
person’s cells have 47 chromosomes instead
of 46.
