Several nutrients have been shown to be commonly inadequate in the diets of many Americans but the
inadequacy is often unrecognized.
-Describe significant changes in our understanding of each nutrient.
-Identify geographic and social factors that affect adequacy.
-Describe age- or developmental-related factors that affect adequacy.
-Describe pregnancy, breastfeeding, general infant nutrition and formula applications.
-Describe common health problems that require nutrition adjustments.
-Identify drug/nutrient interaction of concern.
-Identify simple, safe and inexpensive interventions to improve this picture.
