GOALS OF THE GRANT
• #1 Create and sustain safe and supportive
schools via a formal state level collaborative
cross-agency structure.
• #2 Improve the social and emotional skills and
preparedness for long-term educational
success, birth to five years. Develop crosssector collaboration within each LEA.
GOALS OF THE GRANT
• #3 Improve the mental, emotional and
behavioral health of children through early
identification and intervention.
• #4 Reduce the need for out-of-home
placement, hospitalization, or incarceration of
children. Mental Health Centers will provide
the support.
GOALS OF THE GRANT
• #5 Increase family involvement for youth
within goal #4.
• #6 Reduce risk factors for drug and alcohol
misuse.

KEY LEA ACTIVITIES
• Hire Project Manager, Early Childhood
Coordinator, and Assistant
• Engage family and youth in all aspects of family
planning
• Conduct LEA Needs Assessments
• Work with State to create an LEA Plan and select
evidence based practices
• Help at least one early childhood provider to get
Early Childhood and Family Mental Health
Credential
ONGOING REQUIREMENTS AFTER
THE GRANT ENDS
• MOU’s in place
• No requirements for staff or expenses
• Should build the system
PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT
• Early childhood participation requires
parental approval
• Mental health participation requires
approval from parents
• Drug and alcohol screening and program
participation requires parental approval
