BRAZIL
• Brazil is the largest country of Latin America and the 5th in the
world; both by geography and by population. It has a little
more than 200.000.000 people.
• Brazil is the third largest democracy in the world.
• It’s the largest lusophone country in the world and the only
one in the Americas.
• Brazil has the 6th largest GDP in the world. (U$ 1,5 tri)
• The main cities are São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. São Paulo
has the 65% of the industries of Brazil.
• Today Brazil has a stable economy with a 5,6% unemployment
rate.
The importance of Immigration to Brazil’s
development
• During the end of the XIX and begining of the XX centuries,
more than 5.000.000 million immigrants arrived in Brazil to
work. Most of them went to the coffee farms in the state of
São Paulo but many also went to the cities. They were
responsible for the urbanization and industrialization of Brazil.
• The GDP of Brazil grew 400% during the immigration period.
• Immigrants were originally from many countries: Italy,
Germany, Spain, Portugal, France, Poland, Japan, Lebanoon
and others. It gave Brazil a character of one of the most
multi-racial countries in the world.
• In the second half of the the XX century Brazil faced severe
economic problems that made the immigration flow cease
and many brazilians left the country to try a better life abroad.
• With the recovery of the economy 20 years ago, Brazil started
attracting immigrants, specially high-skilled immigrants who
are leaving their countries because of the 2008 crisis.
Opportunities for work in Brazil
• Future Events like the World Cup and the Olympic Games demand
specialized workers.
• New discoveries and explorations in oil demands engineers.
• Heavy public and private investments in modernization of the
harbours, construction of roads, and rail stations are demanding
engineers, managers with ability for leadership and technicians.
• There is a lack of qualified workers in Brazil that has caused an
explosion of open vacancies to be filled in companies. The areas
where there are demands for skilled workers are engineering,
chemistry, oil, gas, IT.
• High Salaries: A CEO or Director can earn up to U$600.000 per year.
• Plan of Career: Young professionals have the chance to occupy
places of leadership in companies.

NEW RULES FOR IMMIGRATION POLICY
 The applicant (company or individual) has to attach all
relevant documentation to the National Immigration
Council by digital media. And all information about the
immigrant will be saved in an unique electronic register.
 After 2 years with temporary work visa, it becomes
permanent automatically.
 Work Visa for Post-Graduate students. (enrolled in an
academic institution abroad) Ex: Summer jobs.
 Workers don’t require a new work visa if they change their
job in the same profession.
 Possibility that the dependents of immigrants who have job
opportunity can also apply for temporary work visas.

who come to Brazil to work in top positions.
