 Objectives
• Develop a set of comparable data on maritime
activities in the Atlantic Area
• Analyse Atlantic maritime economy development
• Define economic and geographical dimensions
• Compile a common set of quantitative data:
accounting indicators
• Use Eurostat statistical classifications: NACE and
NUTS

Practical Initiatives
 Practical initiatives rolled-out in each Member State,
utilising the collected data e.g:
• Study of maritime transport,
• Competitiveness and vulnerability index of marine
economies
• Economic contribution of cruise port
• Comparisons of value of marine sectors across regions
• Sub-supply synergies between shipbuilding and marine
energy sectors

MARNET- Current Status
 Marnet Project winds up on 30th April 2015
 Final Steering Committee meeting 31st March in
Brussels to consider work programme for possible
new application and potential work packages
 Funding application will be subject to assessment
under the Atlantic Area Interreg programme (late
2015)?
 Preliminary discussions have taken place on:
• Update and extension of existing indicator framework
• Addition of new indicator data and new studies
• Addressing data needs identified by DG MARE
