AFRICA RISING!
Africa’s Real GDP rose by an
average 4.9% a year from 2000 to
2008 - more than twice its pace in
the previous two decades. 6.6% in
2012; 4.8% in 2013; 5.3% expected
in 2014.
As of 2011, 27/54 African countries
had attained MIC status. At current
rates most African countries are
expected to attain upper MIC status
within the next 50 years.
Extrapolations of current
economic
performance indicate that
Africa’s economic
prospects are strong
The IMF forecasts that 11 of
the 20 fastest growing
economies in the world
through to 2017 will be in
Africa.
AFRICA RISING?
The number of
impoverished people
has doubled since 1981.

decent job opportunities,
improving service delivery
and minimizing income,
gender and inequalities
In 2012 the proportion
of employed people
earning less than
US$1.25/day stood at
46.5% of total
employment
In 2010, six out of
