Situation
✤
✤
✤
Life expectancy increase
1975 = 73.7 years
and
2008 = 81.2 years
Every 5 years life expectancy grows an average of 1 year.
Situation: gender
perspective
Nowadays live expectancy of women is more similar than men
ones.
women  84.3 years
men  78.2 years.
Woman's life is more similar of men one's.
Moreover, the technology advance represents better life and
work conditions.
Situation: births decrease
Situation
✤
Nowadays, people don’t have as many children as they
did before.
- Women have been introduced in the labor market,
- Have a children = cost
- Maternity leave = no more job?
Situation
✤
2008 Crisis in Spain
✤
✤
Unemployment increases  production (GDP)
decreases.
+ unemployment  + consume SS
(unemployment payment, health care, pensions…)
 – contributions of SS.
✤
✤
So, how will the Social Security maintain the pensioners?
✤
retirement from 65 years to 67 years.
✤
More services PENSION PLANS
Long term there will be a problem with old people &
technology.
Problems
✤
This situation is economically impossible to cover.
Governments don’t have enough
income to face the cost of social spending.
Specially PENSIONS and SOCIAL SECURITY.
Structure of the new generation
of family
✤
✤
Husband and wife are both working. How can they take care of
children?
How can they take care of older people if they don’t have enough
money to pay for somebody to do it?
Can old people adapt to new
societies?
✤
New technologies are part of our everyday life. Old people seem to be
apart from all of them.
✤
this fact excludes them of the labour market and many
other areas that are now working with these new devices.
Inverted age pyramid
Old people
Young people
Solutions that are being
applied right now
1.Change the age of retirement to force people stay in
the labour market. This maintains more people
working and less people that are getting money as
pensions.
2.Births incentives. Long term solution. That will help
the labour market in a minimum of 17 years (as they
are able to start working at the age of 16).
Solutions
1.Austerity plan. In order to be more efficient to be able
to solve the basic problems of the society without
using the money for irrelevant things.
2.Invest in good habits. Good health promotion
campaigns.
Solutions
1.The family conciliation is not being solved. How
can the government put itself inside the families to
help them from the inside?
2.No solutions are given to the “health tourism”
We are really looking forward to
working with all of you!
