Egypt
Geography
Egypt is in the Northern region of Africa,
found close to Saudi Arabia in Asia. Although
other African countries in the south have very
strong economies, in the northern region,
Egypt is among the poorer countries. The
average annual income of a household is
$1,530 a year. Due to the poverty, over 1.5
million of the population is mentally disabled,
which is why the Egyptian government has
placed a high priority on disabled citizens,
meaning that over 10 million people living
there can’t reach their food needs.
Egypt
History
Being in the north of Africa, it has slightly
more Islamic cultures rather than tribal
cultures found in the south. Egypt was the
most advanced country in the world 7000
years ago, which took England 5000 years to
reach that standard of technology. It may not
necessarily have the strongest economy today,
but it had the strongest technology several
thousand years ago. The capital city of Egypt is
Cairo.
South Africa
Geography
South Africa is well known for it’s mining
industry. There are many gold and diamond
mines which is why South Africa has a very
strong economy. The gold industry is the main
thing that runs the economy in South Africa
along side farming and car manufacturing. It is
also able to communicate with other African
countries because surprisingly it has 11
languages.
South Africa
History
South Africa isn’t like countries in the
northern region. South Africa is made up of
mainly 5 different biomes: grasslands,
mountains, savannah/deserts and jungles.
South Africa has 4 seasons in the UK, but at
completely different times. Summer starts in
December and winter starts in June. South
Africa also has the Kalahari Desert. Not all of it
is in South Africa, but only the Southern region
of it. The capital cities of South Africa are
Pretoria, Cape Town, and Bloemfontein.
Morocco
Geography
Nearly one third of Morocco's labour
force is employed in agriculture. Wheat, barley,
and sugar beets are the main crops in their
trade. Morocco isn’t the strongest economy in
Africa because it is only one of the most recent
African economies. Drought and extreme
rainfall is a problem for the Moroccan
economy because the crops are often drowned
and some areas are deprived. Morocco is also
rich in mining and among the world's largest
industries. They often mine phosphate rock,
phosphoric acid iron.
Morocco
History
Morocco has a very weak economy in the
1980s, but since taking the throne in 1999,
King Mohammed IV has been able to bring the
Moroccan economy back into a stable position.
Today the GDP of Morocco is at roughly 175
billion dollars. Since their rise in economy,
only 15% of Moroccan citizens live in poverty,
and nearly 40% of Moroccans work in the
labour force. The capital of Morocco is
Marrakech.
I think that these African countries are all different in different
aspects. I chose one from the south and two from the north to show
that African biomes can be very different, and also that two countries
in the same region can have very different histories. For example,
South Africans speak 11 different languages, but Morocco’s culture is
influenced by English and French, which also influence the languages
spoken in Egypt, along with German being spoken as well.
