Non-renewable resources in
Desert
Oil
What can we found in the
Desert Area?
Although there is little vegetation cover, animals and
human activities on the surface of desert, some
deserts contains many valuable resources.
Oil is one of the most important resources in industry
and economic development. It is required in power
generation, engines fuel and manufacturing sector.
The extraction of oil has become an important issue
among the world.
What is Middle East?
Middle East is located in the area between Asia, Europe and
Africa. Most of the area is between 15°N to 40°N. Except Israel,
most of the countries Muslim.
The climate characteristics of the Middle East are hot and dry.
The mean annual temperature is about 20-30℃.
Most of the area has less than 200mm rainfall per year.
Although it was one of the earliest agricultural area in the World,
there is serious desertification and salinisation problem.
Therefore, most of the area in Middle East is not suitable for
farming and people’s living.
Middle East, the major oil
reserve in the World
Proved crude oil reserve in 2003
About 2/3 of the world crude oil
is found in the middle east, one
of the major desert area in the
world.
The oil reserve in the Middle
East was found since 1930s.
Until now, most of the high
quality crude oil is found in the
area. It can satisfy our
consumption for about 40-50
years.
AS a feeder of World Economy.
The Middle East also
dominates world
production of oil.
It is the major producer
and exporter of crude
oil in the world market.
How does non-renewable
resource benefits Middle East?
The Middle East countries earn a lot from exporting
their non-renewable resource, such as crude oil.
This greatly enhances their economic growth.
GDP per capita in:
Saudi Arabia
US$ 12900
United Arabic Emirates US$ 29100
Kuwait
US$ 22100
World
US$ 9300
The oil exporting countries in Middle East set up the
Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries(OPEC).
This helps the Middle East Countries gain importance
in the international society.
The Oil Crises in the 1973 and 1979 are the most
obvious symbols of the Middle East Muslim Countries
power.
Does the non-renewable resource
brings disaster to Middle East?
Most of the income from selling non-renewable
resource was flowed to the nobles or rich people in
the country. The income gap was widen due to the
corruption, extraction of resources by them.
The industrialization in Middle East is not rapid. There
are little industries developed in the area. Middle East
lacks economic diversity.
The natural environment was greatly affected. As the
oil production will burn large amount of crude oil, the
carbon dioxide in the air increase.
The mean annual temperature of the Middle East is
increasing. This is also one of the region suffering
from serious global warming.
What will the Middle East
