Environmental Management Systems
There are some similarities with the Quality
Management System QMS of ISO 9000:
• Has formalized systems to control processes
• Does not provide absolute standard performance
• Is good management practice
• The environmental policy is publicly available
• Requires personnel responsibility to be defined
• Has training programs
• Internal auditing

Environmental Management Systems
There are as well new features:
• Includes whole organization or site
• Requires compliance with legislation and codes of
practice
• Based on the evaluation and mitigation of
environmental aspects
• Introduces wider concepts of the customer through
stakeholders ideas
• Has longer implementation times than QMS
