The Economy
Agency
Express
• Editing of submitted food orders
• Why is it so hard to get food orders to
go through the system without calling
and getting help from HFB staff?
The Economy
Quality
Control
• Bagging of rice and beans, flimsy bags
and inconsistent weights
• Paying for food with 1-yr expiration
dates.
• Kroger meat being 2 months after
expiration date.
The Economy
Quality
Control
• Why can't we get the supplies like we
used to? You don't know what to
order, you don't get what you ordered
anyway.
• When we receive "Best by Date" items
(Frozen+Boxed+Canned), what is the
"shelf" life or safe date range to
discard?
The
Economy
Food
Fairs
• Dairy?
• Canned goods
The Economy
Customer
Service
• Better communication from food
bank agency personnel
The Economy
Customer
Service
• Needs to employ an outside firm to
survey agencies about whether the
HFB is effectively meeting its goals
of service to the agencies.
The Economy
Customer
Service
• Assist agencies in understanding the
monthly statement: debits and
credits
• Due to the credit limit, can we get
faster turnaround on invoices
• Agency monthly statements are not
coming in a timely fashion to stay
current with invoices.
The Economy
Customer
Service
• How can we get smaller amounts
than 500 lb pallets of produce?
• Personnel changes are constant on
the dock level. Inexperienced forklift
drivers create danger to staff,
agencies and volunteers. The only
constant is Ison! He is great.
The Economy
Customer
Service
• I miss the contact with agency
services. They are great; I just do
not see them enough.
The
Economy
Inventory
• Availability of produce on the
shopping list
• Quality of produce
• Lack of hamburger meat
The
Economy
Inventory
• When placing orders for food
sometimes items are listed as entrée
self-heating or family boxes. Is it
possible to have details of what is
included on those boxes instead of
being surprised when the orders
arrive?
• Do you offer special foods for
seniors? Like senior boxes?
The Economy
Strategic
Direction
• What does the HFB see as the future
for small scale pantries? Does HFB
see consolidation of smaller pantries
as a desirable alternative?
The Economy
Strategic
Direction
• We've been told and want it
clarified/ruled out.
 Larger pantries have 1st choice, best
choice of all items.
 This is to run out smaller pantries
 Smaller pantries get broken, out of
date, “bad" food items when others get
the "best".
The
Economy
Resources
• How often do you promote or inform
agencies about grants?
• How does the FB decide on
allocations such as refrigators,
freezers and other FB allocations?
• Are there any or will there be any
collaborative grant opportunities?
The
Economy
Resources
• What can the Houston Food Bank do
to help us get the City of Houston to
rollback the over 300% increase in the
food permit fee? This increase cuts
directly into the limited cash donations
we have to pay for food, and for
smaller pantries especially, this is a
real hardship. PLEASE HELP!!
