Windmill and Energy
By Derek Yeung, Mark Tong, Henry Lai,
Ernest Tse, Kenneth Chan
Wind
Caused by:
The heat of the Sun
The rotation of the Earth
The Earth’s terrain.
Wind
•
The power of wind, when harvested by wind turbines,
can be transferred for producing energy.
What is a Windmill?
Noisy and may kill birds
Cannot be used when there
is no wind
The bigger the propeller is
the more energy it produces

How to turn wind power into
electric power?
Wind Turbine turns the
magnets in the
generatorThe magnets
creates electric currents
and therefore causes
the wires (the coil of the
generator) around the
magnets to have
electricity voltage
It is then set off with wires
to other places for usage
Energy Transfer
Wind (kinetic
energy)
Turbine
Generator
Transformer
Happens where energy is
transferred from one part
to another by connections
Energy loss occur mostly
when one type of energy
was transferred to another
type. It happens in
windmills too.
Energy Loss
Wind (kinetic energy)
0%
Turbine
(N/A depends on the
direction of the wind)
Generator

Transformer

Efficiency is the amount of energy that
have not been losen in the process of
producing energy.
Windmill Efficiency:
Less than 90%
