EET 270 Safety
First Goal
• What is the first goal of this Lab?
Answer:
• To get you out of here without
injury!
Second Goal:
• Learn Motor Controls
Lab PPE
• You must wear safety glasses at
all times during lab or while
working on trainers
Trainers- Dangers
• Electrical hazard
• Lifting Hazard
• Drop Hazard
• Rolling Hazard
• Escape Hazard (snap, crackle, run)
Electrical Hazard
• High Voltage: 120/208 VRMS
• Arch/ Flash
• Electrocution
Electrical Hazard prevention
• Trainers MUST BE UNPLUGGED while
building the circuit
• All troubleshooting will be done
while trainer is unplugged (Cold)
Power Up-Sequence
1) The circuit MOST HAVE a Power
Indicator and E-Stop Circuit
2) Check Circuit for Shorts
3) Have circuit checked by Instructor
4) Notify those nearby before
plugging in
5) Identify/clear your escape route
Power Up- Part 2
6) Put Hand on Man Power Switch
7) Turn away and warn others
8) Turn on power
9) Place finger on start switch
10) Turn away and warn others
11) Press Start
If Something goes wrong
1) Play it Safe!
2) Remove power
a) Power switch
b) Power Plug
c) Lab Power
If a Fuse is blow
• Do not reset a circuit breaker or
replace a fuse unless you think
you understand why it blew in
the first place!

• Use one-Hand Method
• Voltage is measured across a
Component

1) Amp-Clamp
2) In-Line Measurement
