Two Questions
• Why are some actions/decisions/choices
morally wrong? morally right?
• Insofar as morality is to guide our lives,
what is the purpose?
We want what is in our long-term interest…
morality establishes rules to promote that outcome.
What promotes our long-term interest?
• Hazlitt:
– Social cooperation.
• Division of labor.
• Markets.
– Clear & enforceable property rights.
– Voluntary association (i.e., not coercive).
– Free of government intervention.
A moral system
or
“the” moral system?
