CYPRUS
Geographical position
Cyprus geography
 Cyprus is the third largest and a member state
of the European Union.
Neighboring countries are
Greece, Turkey,
Syria, Lebanon, Israel and Egypt. It is located
south of Turkey, west of Syria and Lebanon,
northwest of Israel and Palestine, north
of Egypt and east of Greece.
Cyprus has a Mediterranean climate with main
characteristics the hot summer and mild winter.

Nicosia is the capital of Cyprus.
 Nicosia is the biggest city in
Cyprus.
 The biggest mountain in
Cyprus is Troodos.
 In Cyprus there are 6 cities:
Nicosia, Paphos, Larnaka,
Limassol, Kyrenia, Famagusta.

is the Cyclamen
chosen as the
national flower of
Cyprus.
 Important is to
mention the largest
wild animal that is
the moufflon,
which you will find
in Cyprus only.
Sights in Cyprus
 “ Petra tou Romiou”
is one of the most
famous spots in Cyprus. It
lies between Paphos and
Limassol just on the
highway. The legend goes
back to Digenis, a
Byzantine hero who threw
heavy rocks at invaders to
destroy their ships and
impede them from
intruding the island.
 Choirokoitia is a
prehistoric
settlement in
Cyprus. Houses of
the Neolithic period
which were just
made with clay and
stones ‘plithari”.
The site was
discovered in 1934.
 Idalion was an
ancient city and Cypriot
kingdom. According to
tradition, it was
founded by
‘Chalkanora’ where he
saw the sun, ‘’behold
alion '' which means he
saw the sun.
This is in our village!!

Our school is located
next to it.
Cyprus Cuisine
 The animal milk is
heat at high
temperatures, and after
coagulation, it is cut
into large pieces. It is
called “Trahanas”.
 “Koupepia” is another
traditional Cypriot food
which is made from
minced meat and vine
leaves.
Flaouna is a special Easter
food. It is a cheese filled
pastry, which sometimes also
includes raisins or it can be
garnished with sesame seeds.
Bamies are baked
in the oven with
tomato and oil.
Currency Cyprus
 The Official currency
in Cyprus was the pound
until 2008 .
 Now the currency is
euro.
National Anthem
 The anthem of
freedom was written by
the Greek poet
Dionysios Solomos. It
is established as the
national anthem of
Cyprus and Greece and
sounds in official
ceremonies.

 The main religion
of Cyprus is
Orthodox
Christianism. It us
taught in all schools
and churches in
Cyprus. This is the
church in my village,
Dali.
• Dali is a large village in Cyprus.
• It is located in the south east of the capital, Nicosia.
• In 2011, it had a population of 5,834.
• By 2011, the population has almost doubled to 10,466.
