relate to function in
macromolecules?
Lipids
1. Triglycerides
• Monomers are
Fatty Acid
molecules.
• Fork-like shape:
2 types of Triglycerides
1. Saturated Fat
• Solid at room temp.
• Comes from animals.
• Stored energy
- Saturated with
hydrogen.
- Single bonds btwn
Cs
Examples of Saturated Fat
Unsaturated fat - OIL
• Clear liquid at room
temp.
• Oils come from plants.
Double bonds btwn the carbon
atoms.
2. Phospholipid Fat
• Phospholipids make up most of a cell membrane
Phospholipids have 2 fatty acid tails and
a “head”
3.Waxes
• Wax on leaves holds in moisture.
• Bees’ wax stores honey and larvae (eggs)
4. Cholesterol
• strengthens cell membranes
• Part of steroid hormones
