WATER CYCLE
SCIENCE
 The water cycle (or the
hydrologic cycle) is the
continuous movement of water
between the earth’s surface and
the troposphere.

 Evaporation is the process where liquid
changes into invisible water vapor.
(gas)
 Heat from sunlight makes evaporation
happen.
 A special type of evaporation is
transpiration, where water
vapor is released into the air by
leaves of plants.
 Condensation: process where water
vapor (gas) changes into liquid water.
 Happens as water vapor cools.
 Clouds are evidence of condensation.
 Precipitation: occurs when water or a
form of ice falls from the atmosphere
to Earth’s surface.
 Forms when water droplets in clouds
grow and become too heavy to stay up
in the atmosphere.
 Runoff: occurs when gravity moves water
downhill.
 Collection: occurs when water collects in an
area. Lakes, puddles, and oceans are
examples.
