QUICK QUESTIONS : MONDAY

1. What are the products of photosynthesis?

2. What are the products of cellular respiration?

3. The release of water and gases by plants through their leaves is
called __________.

4. The green color or pigment in plant leaves which makes it
photosynthesize is the ______________.

5. The microscopic pores on the underside of plant leaves which
allows transpiration to occur is called ____________.
HOMEWORK : TO BE SUBMITTED 5/11/15

How does energy cycle through organisms on Earth?

How is the Sun connected to life on Earth?

How do we get energy from the sun?

Draw one food chain and label it (organism and role
they play)

Draw one food web and label it (organism and role they
play)
Essential Standards : 6.L.2.1

By the end of Monday, I can :

Tell what a food chain is

Give an example of a food chain

Identify the significant role of sunlight in a food chain

Work in Centers dealing with Energy Transfer : Food
Chains and Food Webs
Vocabulary Word : Monday:
Food Chain

A food chain is a model that shows one set of feeding
relationships among living things

Sentence . A food chain shows how food and energy
passes from one organism to another in an ecosystem.

Your turn!
New Concept : Monday

Food provides molecules that serve as fuel and
building material for all organisms. Plants use
the energy from light to make sugars from
carbon dioxide and water. Green plants are the
producers of food that is used directly or
indirectly by consumers. Plants can use the food
they make immediately or store it for later use.
NCFE QUESTION : MONDAY

Tulips are flowers that typically bloom in the spring. How could
tulips be forced to bloom in winter?

A by limiting pruning and trimming of the tulips

B by reducing water levels and nutrient uptake by the tulips

C by elevating oxygen levels and supplying organic matter to the
tulips

D by increasing temperature and lengthening daylight for the
tulips

Answer : D
Vocabulary Word : Tuesday
Food Web

A food web is a model that shows one set of feeding relationships among
living things.

Sentence. Food web will show us multiple producers, consumers and
decomposers.

Your turn!
New Concept : Tuesday

Energy flows through ecosystems in one
direction, from the sun through producers to
consumers to decomposers. Matter is
transferred from one organism to another and
between organisms and their environments.
Water, nitrogen, carbon dioxide, and oxygen
are substances cycled between the living and
non-living environments.
Ncfe Question : Tuesday

What would happen to the plant if it were turned away from the
light source?

A The plant would stop growing.

B The plant would be unaffected.

C The plant would move away from the light source.

D The plant would bend towards the light source.

Answer : D
Vocabulary Word : Wednesday
Producers
 Producer
is an organism that makes its
own food; an organism that does not
consume other plants or animals.
 Sentence.
Plants are examples of
producers.
 Your
turn!
New Concept : Wednesday
 Decomposers
return nutrients to the
environment-such as fungi on fallen logs,
mold on bread. Explore the importance
and role of bacteria in the guts of animals
and plant roots at it relates to the
recycling of matter.
NCFE WEDNESDAY

Which contributes to Earth’s ability to sustain life?

A. The atmosphere allows all of the sun’s radiation to enter due to Earth’s
distance from the sun.

B. The atmosphere prevents all space debris from reaching the surface
due to the ozone layer.

C. The atmosphere is extremely thin due to the temperatures of the sun.

D. The atmosphere is breathable due to the unique mixture of gases.

ANSWER : D
Vocabulary Word : Thursday
Consumer

Consumer is an organism that eats other living
things to get energy; an organism that does not
produce its own food.

Sentence. Men are consumers as well as all
other animals.

Your turn!
New Concept : Thursday

Herbivores are animals that eat producers to get energy. For example,
rabbits and deer are herbivores that eat plants. The caterpillar in Figure
below is an herbivore. Animals that eat phytoplankton in aquatic
environments are also herbivores.

Carnivores feed on animals, either herbivores or other carnivores. Snakes
that eat mice are carnivores. Hawks that eat snakes are also carnivores.

Omnivores eat both producers and consumers. Most people are
omnivores, since they eat fruits, vegetables, and grains from plants, and
also meat and dairy products from animals. Dogs, bears, and raccoons are
also omnivores.
Ncfe Thursday

How does gravity support life on Earth?

A. by forcing Earth to continuously spin on its axis, which contributes to
day and night

B. by causing changes in the distance between Earth and the sun, which
contributes to the seasons

C . by keeping water and gases in the atmosphere close to Earth’s
surface, which contributes to life processes

D. by preventing meteors and comets from hitting Earth’s surface, which
protects living organisms from space fragments

Answer : C
