TBZ JOB FAIR – 8/14/14
Time: 4pm – 6:30pm
•Seasonal (non-benefitted)
•Hourly positions - $8.25/hr.
•Applicants must be 18 years of age or older
•Applicants must be available for work
WEEKENDS AND HOLIDAYS
Applicants must pass a criminal background check
•Applicants must have a valid photo ID & Social
Security Card or current US Passport
•Applicants for all positions must be friendly, polite,

enjoy working with and around children and families.

DESCRIPTIONS
For ALL positions, the following is required:
•Demonstrate exemplary customer service skill sets at
all times to ensure Zoo patrons enjoy an extraordinary
“double platinum” visit
•Interact with public in a courteous manner
•Interact with co-workers in a courteous manner
•Know where all animal exhibits are located
throughout the zoo so you may direct visitors
•Follow written and oral direction
•Be able to work safely and quickly
•Perform other duties as necessary
Positions subject to random drug and alcohol testing
POSITION DESCRIPTION
CUSTODIAN
Job duties include but are not limited to:
•Follow written and oral direction
•Must be able to work safely and quickly
•Clean/service restrooms as many times as needed ALL DAY
•Clean/service staff buildings & restrooms
•Restock cleaning supplies
•Collect & dispose trash in restrooms as many times needed
during the day
•Sweep and mops floors
•Clean windows using materials provided
•Clean all signs throughout the zoo
•Walk the Zoo grounds at least 6 times a day to remove trash
along the zoo paths and in front of animal exhibits
•Must be able to lift between 40 and 50 pounds
POSITION DESCRIPTION
GENERAL MAINTENANCE / GROUNDSKEEPER
Job duties include but are not limited to:
•Clean public restrooms
•Use lawn mowers, weed whip, leaf blower & other small
machinery
•Manually rake and remove leaves
•Weed gardens and areas around exhibits
•Climb ladders to clean overhead fixtures and equipment
•Maintain walkways
•Dispose of debris & trash as many times as needed all day
•Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
•Follow written and oral direction
•Must be able to work safely and quickly
•Perform other duties as necessary
•Some basic plumbing knowledge a plus
•Pool and Filter experience a plus
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Seasonal Landscape Assistants
Perform various grounds keeping and gardening duties under direct supervision
of Horticulturist.
Job duties include but are not limited to:
•Trim and edge all landscape beds around walks, exhibits, walls and
other structures.
•Landscape by planting flowers, grass, shrubs, and bushes.
•Perform routine maintenance of tools, supplies, work area, and
other similar duties.
•Trim shrubs, deadhead spent flowers, water plants/trees and pull
weeds as directed.
•Perform minor repairs and maintenance procedures on equipment
utilized in grounds keeping.
•Lift and carry minimum of 50lb bags or other landscape materials.
•Rake, mulch, and prune the grounds as needed.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
GUEST RELATIONS (CASHIER – GREETER – MASCOT – CAROUSEL OPERATOR)
Job duties include but are not limited to:
•Answer the phone properly
•Take accurate messages
•Write &/or print legibly
•Count and record numerical data accurately
•Perform basic computations such as addition, subtraction,
division and multiplication
•Use various types of electronic and/or manual recording and
information systems
•Operate a computerized cash register in order to total the price
of individual entrance fees, collect cash, make change, and enter
credit card data
•Reconcile cash drawers
•Perform other duties as assigned—i.e. wear the Zoo mascot
costume, greet visitors, show parties where they are to set up
POSITION DESCRIPTION
AVIARY &/or TOUCH TANK EXHIBITS
Job duties include but are not limited to:
•Lift a minimum of 50 pounds
•Work safely and quickly to open the exhibits by 10 am
•Learn to properly care for & observe behavior & health of butterflies,
parakeets, rays & sharks
•Pickup and remove debris
•Remove all food bowls, sweep paths, clean and water plants, wash
windows
•Hose paths and remove all feces; Clean public areas continuously
•Guard entrance and exit so birds do not escape
•Show visitors how to feed the butterflies, birds & rays
•Keep visitors on paths. Encourage proper interaction with the animals
•Interact with public and co-workers in a courteous manner
•Know where all animal exhibits are located throughout the zoo so you
can direct visitors to the correct area
•Perform other duties as assigned

POSITION DESCRIPTION
ESSEX FARM
Job duties include but are not limited to:
•Lift a minimum of 60 pounds
•Work safely and quickly to open the farm to the public on time
•Learn to properly care for a variety of farm animals
•Groom animals under guidance
•Safely lead ponies around the pony track for children’s rides
•Learn about the animals in your care and be able to talk to the public
about the animals on the farm
•Daily continuous cleaning, watering and feeding large animals
•Interact with public in a courteous manner
•Interact with co-workers in a courteous manner
•Know where all animal exhibits are located throughout the zoo so you
can direct visitors to the correct area
•Rake leaves, weed the grounds, shovel stone dust and carry bags of
wood shavings, grain and bales of hay to animal areas
•Clean public paths continuously
•Perform other duties as assigned
