Savanna Grassland- Climate and
Weather
Claire S.
Temperature Range
The temperature in a Savanna is warm
year round. The temperatures vary
within the 70s and rarely ever go below
70 degrees. Unlike us, Savannas have 2
seasons. A season known as the “wet”
and a season known as the “dry”. These
seasons do not have much of a
temperature difference but they are
very different.
The “Wet” Season
This season can last up to five months and is usually
from somewhere in May to somewhere in September.
There is not specific date because it starts when the
heavy rains come. The “wet” season is a very rainy but
humid time. Heavy rains will last for hours at a time
and monsoons are very common too. There is always
thunderstorms, heavy rains, monsoons and
windstorms. It is usually cloudy and there is little
sunshine but it is still very humid. The warm air on
the ground will rise and collide with the cool air above
it, creating rain and humid air.
The “Dry” Season
This season gets very little rain and is extremely
different from the “wet” season. There is always a
beating sun, little to no rain, little wind, lots of
sunshine and lots of fires. Since there is almost no
rain, drought occurs and dries up most of the plants.
With little wind and a lot of sun, they are very
flammable. Forest fires occur all the time and are
actually good for the Savanna. They renew the forest
by killing the dead plants and making room for the
new ones. These wildfires don’t allow rainforest
plants to grow in that would in the fires hadn’t
happened.
Affected Organisms
These weather conditions affect a lot of
plants, animals and any organism that lives in a
Savanna. Since the weather is so different
only a small amount of things can live there
year round. The waters could flood homes to
plants and animals and even drowned some.
The forest fires could easily burn plants and
animals and their homes. This is a very hard
place to survive in due to the weather
conditions.
