Is found in 3 forms on Earth:
Liquid water
Frozen Ice
Water Vapor
When temperatures fall below
freezing, liquid water becomes ice.
Water Vapor
• When heat is
added to liquid
water, water
vapor is
formed.
If ice gets heated, it
turns back into liquid
water.
Let’s review vocabulary terms:
• Evaporation : water changes from a liquid
to a gas (water vapor)
• Condensation: the vapor changes back into
a liquid
• Precipitation: water falls from the clouds
back to the Earth’s surface.
Do you remember what the water
cycle is?
• The movement of water into the air as water
vapor and back to Earth’s surface as
precipitation.
So, how does the water cycle affect
weather?
• When water is exposed to the sun, it gets
warm and evaporates. This causes water
vapor to form and move upwards into the
atmosphere.
• It condenses to form clouds. When the
clouds get too heavy, precipitation like rain,
falls to Earth.
