Description of a
Cold Front
Description of a Cold Front
A cold front is formed
when a mass of
(1)cold/cooler air runs
into a mass of (2)slower
moving or stationary
warm air.
Since cold air is (3)more
dense than warm air, the
warm air is forced (4)up
and over the cold front.
Description of a Cold Front
Another result of the cold (5)air
being denser than the warm
air that the cold front is
steeper – nearly (6)vertical –
than a warm front.
Because the warm, (7)moist air
is forced to (8)rise rapidly,
the clouds that are formed
are often (9)cumulonimbus
(thick/towering).
Description of a Cold Front
Cold fronts can move (10)slowly, but they can also
move quickly – up to (11)100 km/h.
Thus the rain can last a (12)long time or it can be
over quickly.
The sudden change of (13)temperature with a
passing cold front can lead to intense (14)winds,
as well.
Description of a Cold Front
If the cold front is very
different in
temperature from the
warmer air,
(15)thunderstorms
and even (16)tornados
can be formed.
